The Manic rush of 21st Century life...
...an oasis...
OUR AIMS
When we were planning Brightideas.today, we set out to do something slightly different. The thing that struck us was how negative, depressing, and angry mainstream and social media had become. From all the bad news we seem to see in traditional media (which of course has no choice but to reflect World events), to the nastiness of the Twitter ‘storms’ and Facebook arguments that seem to make society ever more divided.

We need to know what’s happening, so we need hard news and debate, but we thought we’d do something different. We enjoy the quirky, the unusual, and the more positive aspects of life. We thought other people might as well, and that’s what Brightideas.today is all about.

If modern life is a high speed rat-race where we don’t have time to stop for breath, then we wanted Brightideas.today to be an oasis of calm. A chance to pause from the mad dash of the 21st century, for a quiet but fun stroll through the lighter and more positive side of life.

OUR EDITORIAL POLICY
Our editorial policy is summed up by our tagline ‘…and now the good news!’ Meaning that all material that we publish is positive and uplifting in tone and nature. The aim of Brightideas.today is to provide an alternative to the often rather depressing mainstream news media.

Brightideas.today is a subject based magazine, and strives to offer an entertaining mix of uplifting and positive news and features for everyone. We do not exclude or aim our content at any social group, gender or lifestyle. Our material is presented in such a way that it should have universal appeal, no matter how specialised the subject. For example if we do a feature on the Volkswagen Beetle, we write it in such a way that it will appeal to anyone who is interested, whether it be a 25 year old hardcore ‘petrol head’, or a 65 year old with a nostalgic interest.

Quantifying what is a ‘positive’ feature can be difficult, but generally this means avoiding controversial subjects, social issues, and conflicts, and focusing on personalities and specific subjects. Of course even the most positive story could have a few sad moments, so we request a ratio of at least 80% positive stuff per item. Not very scientific, but it gives some idea of what we’re looking for.

Of course we’ll never be able to cover everyone’s interests, but we’ll do our best, and if yours isn’t covered, let us know. Better still, why not write something yourself to promote your passion, and let others see the appeal of your interests. If something positive is happening in your community, let us know, it may even garner more support as the story is shared nationally.

It is very much our policy to listen to our subscribers, and views and suggestions will always be welcome. We cannot of course, make changes based on every individual piece of feedback we receive, however we will be listening to the majority view, and developing Brightideas.today accordingly.

OUR POLICY ON LANGUAGE AND GRAMMAR
We are an English language publication and all content is in English. We require written submissions to be easily readable as it is important that our subscribers are able to fully appreciate what they read.

In order that content is accessible by all members of the community, Brightideas.today is committed to the use of standard English language and grammar as taught in UK schools. For this reason, only work using this will normally be published in Brightideas.today. This does not exclude the use of slang words and expressions in common usage, but does mean that works making extensive use of text speak for example are not normally be published (except where it is used as a direct quotation).

No original material containing offensive language, racial or gender slurs, or similar material likely to cause offence is published.

Where an existing work is published (as part of our classic ebook section for example), original text is used wherever possible and the language and attitudes reflect the time in which they were written. These works are available with this understanding, as it helps to understand attitudes and views of a time, and contextualise the work, even if they would not be published if submitted to us today.

Works published do not reflect the views or opinions of Bright Ideas 365 Ltd, it’s agents, or employees.
