Writing challenges for schools

Writing challenges for schools..

Students in school.

Introduction
The Brightideas.today Writing Challenges are a group of competitions designed to encourage new writing across the UK. As part of this, we are very keen to work with secondary schools to offer a voice to young people, and allow their work to be accessed more widely. Our subscriber-only voting system also allows feedback. The fact that this is not anonymous allows us to moderate ensuring a constructive safespace environment for this. Details of the current challenges and entry forms can be found here.

Our editorial policy of providing exclusively positive and uplifting content applies equally to our writers challenges and more information on this can be found here.

We also hope that going forward it will allow us to develop relationships with writers of all ages from whom we can commission work in the future.

The copyright on all work submitted is retained by the author, so that it can be used elsewhere later if required.

These challenges are also open to all students (13 years and above at time of entry). They must be submitted in English, using our challenge entry form which can be found here.

Eligibility
Anyone over the age of 13 is eligible to submit material as long as it is their own original work (or they hold full copyright over it). Where the work is submitted by someone who is under 18 years of age, the name of a legal guardian or teacher and school must be provided (their permission must be sought first of course). Anyone knowingly submitting material that breaches an existing copyright, will be excluding from entering challenges indefinitely.

Voting
Material accepted will be uploaded to the Brightideas.today website. Here, subscribers (both on trial and full subscriptions) can vote for their favourite. The voting system allows subscribers to rate each story from 1 to 5. The winner will be the one with the most positive rating (after getting a minimum of 100 overall votes).

Prizes
A prize of £500 will be awarded to the author that has written the winning entry, with a further prize of £1,000 to that student’s school.

Terms and Conditions
The following terms apply (as at 1/2/25). They may be amended from time-to-time:
